BlushMallet - Steven Universe Fan Character - Aventurine

What we have here is a colored image done by the wonderful and incomparable @blushmallet.  Given how they are very good at drawing Stephen Universe characters, in particular Peridot and Lapis, I decided to have them do a fan character I’ve had for a while; Aventurine.
If you’ve been following my art blog here, you’ll probably remember that I had something similarly done by Zet13 here:  Aventurine.

For the longest time I’ve always wondered what Aventurine would look like in the Steven Universe style and I saw a lovely opportunity.  In my commission to BlushMallet I mentioned that I wanted a pose that was guarding.  Which does fit her personality that I crafted for her that she’s loyal, reliable and obedient.  And what came back was surprising.  Aventurine’s gaze was intimidating and I liked what was done and I couldn’t wait to color it.  But when it came to the background, I initially wanted to paint a Kindergarten but….it didn’t go as well as I hoped so, I essentially did a small cheat and used the background from the previous Aventurine picture and put it in, with a few extra modifications here and there.

It may seem like cheating but at the same time one could make the argument that doing this also makes a connection and a nod to the previous piece.

All in all, I think it came out well and I thank @blushmallet for the marvelous work they did.

Name:  Aventurine

Weapon:  Sword (Kampilan)
Personality:  The Protector

Merits:  Industrious, loyal, compassionate, caring, patient, reliable and obedient.

Gray traits: Flirty and pacifist

Flaws: Over-zealous, worry-wart, tactless, self-deprecating, overly-sensitive, and stubborn.

History: Aventurine was once an Overseer of Kindergarten.  Her job was to essentially keep watch over the operations of the Kindergartens to make sure they go smoothly in the creation of new gems and to protect it from outside forces.  In her first few dozen assignments, the Kindergartens were on uninhabited worlds but then came the assignment on Terseron: a world that had primitive peoples living on it.  Aventurine knew what Kindergartens did to a planet.  Often she tried to justify what the Gems were doing was for the greater good especially since the Kindergartens she oversaw were on uninhabited worlds.  But when she was ordered to start the Kindergarten on Terseron, she followed her orders and watched the planet die as a result.

After this assignment was completed and the planet was no longer needed, Aventurine was assigned to another world.  All the while the guilt of what she had seen started to eat away at her.  So much so that she decided to do something that she once again tried to justify the ends:  she would destroy the Kindergarten.

When a new one was established on a new world, Aventurine set explosives and destroyed the facility and vanished into space.  Alone and with no home, Aventurine wandered the cosmos until now.
