Coloring Commission - CallMePo - Desscribe - Swashing Her Buckle

Here we have a coloring commission made to me by Desscribe of a lineart they made to CallMePo

When I saw it, I knew it was going to be a fun one to color.  I even had a few ideas for a background.  One of the ideas that I had for a background was that it would be the interior of a spaceship a bit like one of the previous coloring commissions that Desscribe had asked of me.  Or another possibility that I had in mind was something akin to Boris Vallejo’s work where the two of them would be standing on a rock and the beautiful glory of space with twinkling stars and swirling nebula gas clouds would be behind them. 

However, at the time I did the first version of this picture, I left it blank.  But thankfully, Desscribe could commission me to give it a background and that’s what I did. 
The people, by the way, are Corsair and Katherine Summers: the parents of Scott and Alex Summers (Cyclops and Havoc of the X-men Comics).  So, thanks to Desscribe providing some scans of the comics where the two characters had made their appearance I had something to go on as far as coloring goes.

Coloring Commission - Matthew R Humphreys - Sir Integra Hellsing

This is the colored version of a lineart that was done by MatthewRHumphreys as a commission to TedShekler.

When Ted came to me and asked me to color this particular picture, I knew that it was going to be a tough one because of the fact that the lineart itself had some small amount of dark shadings in parts of the picture.  The areas of the character that are the most dark are the ones that I mean.  But I accepted it because I’ve been a fan of the Hellsing series and I have colored pictures that feature Seras Victoria, and most recently Rip Van Winkle, so doing a picture that features Lady Integra Hellsing seems the most fitting.

The final part that proved to be the most difficult was the background. Initially, Ted wanted her to be posed on a wooden floor.  I tried several types of textures and pictures of wooden floors to match this and none of them seemed to have the right look.  So, keeping in mind the headquarters of the Hellsing organization I thought about giving it a more tiled floor look.  Thanks to a few tricks in Photoshop I had created a “fill pattern” of the tiled floor, tweaked it with perspective and here we have it.

The second part of this was that Ted wanted scraps of Integra’s clothing to be scattered on the floor.  So, going back to the original pictures of her, I used the green of her suit and tried to put about scraps of it but in the end none of that looked as good as I wanted and Ted agreed so we got rid of it.

And what you see here is the final result.

Wen-M - The Sword of Silicon Valley

The was a commission I made to Wen-M.  The notion came to me when I started to think of a fusion of science fiction and fantasy in a weapon.  Traditionally when the two are combined we usually think of a lightsaber like what is seen in Star Wars.  But I wanted to go in a much different direction.  So I spoke with Wen-M about this and he came up with a few sketches and I picked the one that would become this.  As for the title, the reason why I called it “The Sword of Silicon Valley” is because in fantasy stories where a legendary type of sword is crafted or found it’s usually called a “weapon name” of “location of crafting or finding”.  That is essentially the formula of it.  And really for this, why should I be any different?

Wen-M - Brisinger

This was a commission I made to Wen-M for the sword known as “Brisingr” from the Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini.  As for the reason of this design, allow me to quote from the book where it made it’s first appearance:

“Covering the blade was a glossy scabbard of the same dark blue as the scales on Saphira’s back. T he color displayed a slight variegation, like the mottled light at the bottom of a clear forest pond.  a piece of blued brightsteel carved in the shape of a leaf capped the end of the scabbard while a collar decorated with stylized vines encircled the mouth.  The curved crossguard was also made of blued brightstel, as were the four ribs that held it in place the large sapphire that formed the pommel.  The hand-and-a-half hilt was made of hard black wood…

"Like the rest of the sword, the blade was blue, but of a slightly lighter shade; it was the blue of the scales in the hollow of Saphira’s throat rather than the blue of those on her back.  And as it was on Zar'roc, the color was iridescent; as Eragon moved the sword about, the color would shimmer and shift, displaying any of the many tones of blue present on Saphira herself.  Through the wash of color, the cable-like patterns within the brightsteel and the pale bands along the edges were still visible.”

I always wanted to see what this sword would really look like the moment I had read that section of the book.  And among the artists at DeviantArt that I was watching among the best was Wen-M who had done amazing work when it came to weapon designs, armor and so on.  And given how simple of a design this was it seemed to be a piece of cake for someone of his skills.

Now I admit that I wish that I could have the sword actually made for display purposes.
