Coloring Commission - CallMePo - SJD83 - Slave Girls
I know it’s been a while since I did any kind of coloring commission so it feels good to be doing it again. What we have here is another from SJD83 who had the lineart done by @callmepo.
HEre’s the original: CallMePO Lineart Commission of some Sexy OCs
If you’ve been following my Tumblr closely, you might recognize these three from a series of pictures SJD83 had Bokuman do and then had me color.
HEre are the links:

Coloring Commission - Bokuman - SJD83 - Sinranael
I did ask SJD83 if these were characters he designed or something had had made based off of another series. Turns out these are completely original characters that he created.
Coloring them was a little tricky since you have each one with their hands around each other. But eventually with careful photoshop maneuvering I was able to get it done. My thanks to SJD83 and to @callmepo for this.

Coloring Commission - SJD83 - CallMePo - Numera’s Tentacle Trouble
Here’s the colored version of a piece that SJD83 had @callmepo do for him. Another in a series of Thundercats characters in some kind of compromising trouble. In this case, Numera facing tentacles.
HEre is the Original: Sketch Commission Numera in Tentacle Peril
I had previously worked on another piece that SJD83 had done, a character sheet of Numera that was done by @bokuman : Coloring Commission - Bokuman - Numera.
So, using that as a basis for the colors, I went right to work on this one. Thankfully, SJD83 didn’t ask for the tentacles to be in different colors or that would have been a real pain to do from a coloring standpoint. Instead, I was asked to make it all one color to give it the appearance that it belonged to the same monster. But still, in comparison between the two, coloring the tentacles took the longest, because I had to mark down which were the tentacles and which was just empty space.
As for the background, it was asked for something simple, just a gradation of two colors. But when I did that I figured that it needed a little more to give the picture life. So using a little light, shadow, and layer manipulation I made it look like Numera was being held in the dark by this monster.

Coloring Commission - SJD83 - Leon-A vs the Tree Monster
Here is another coloring commission that was made to me by SJD83 of a lineart that he had commissioned to “Boundpretties”.
I would give the link back to the original artwork unfortunately it isn’t there so the only thing that I can do here is to give credit to the artist and link back to their deviantart page.
This one wasn’t particularly difficult, except for the part with the vines. Al those vines in different angles and directions. It became quite the undertaking when it came to using my polygon lasso tool and marking out the areas for which would be colored. But once the base area was selected I just held that and went through with my brush tool and added in the shading. Thus the uneven look, but I figured that an uneven look would help in the more organic look of the tree branch rather than make it look like some even piece. That in itself would make the tree branch look a little too artificial.
After that, it was a matter of coloring the tree and adding in some foreground effects that I had used before in a similar piece.
I’m thankful that SJD83 liked what I had done with this as I am quite satisfied with how it came out.

Coloring Commission - Bokuman - SJD83 - Sinranael
Here’s a coloring commission that was made to me by SJD83 of a lineart that he commissioned of Bokuman. This one is the first in a series of three “slave girls”.
Original Lineart: Commission SJD83 Sinranael
When SJD83 approached me with this, I had to ask if these three were characters from anything. As it turned out, they were essentially creations of his own design. Original characters, if you will. But each one has their own unique dress and attributes.
So stay tuned for more.

Coloring Commission - SJD83 - Leo-Na and Nathaira
Here is the newest coloring commission that was made to me by SJD83 this is the second in a pair that he had Bokuman draw for him and that I colored for him.
Original Lineart: Commission SJD83
I had a feeling that I had my work cut out for me with this one. The harder one of the two was the Lamia name Nathaira. It wasn’t just coloring her regular body but it was also an issue of coloring her snake half that would be tricky. What made this a little trickier was the fact that I did this during the middle of some exams that I’ve been involved with as well as an academic project. Thankfully, SJD83 was kind enough to not exert too much pressure of time on me with this and so I was able to work at my own pace.
After Nathaira was finished, coloring Leo-Na was the easier part since most of her body was covered up by Nathaira’s tail.

Coloring Commission - Leo-Na and Lynxana
Here is the newest piece in a line of coloring commissions that SJD83 has made to me. This one is from a lineart that was done by Bokuman and features a frequent favorite of SJD83s: the genderbend version of Lion-O from “Thundercats”, or rather “Leo-na” in this case.
Original Lineart: Leo-Na and Lynxana Lineart
As for the other character in this picture, her name is “Lynxana”. From what SJD83 told me, she made a few small appearances in the Thundercats comics. That made things a little tricky from a coloring standpoint since I didn’t have a lot to base her on since old comics use a pointilation method of coloring where there are dots of varying degrees of different primary colors. Such as a mixture of red and blue dots to make purple and so on. So picking out what shade of color to use for her became difficult indeed.
But eventually it all came together.

Coloring Commission - CallMePo - SJD83 - Lion-A is a Captive of Willa
Here’s a newest piece that was commissioned to me by SJD83 of a lineart that was done for him by callmepo.
Original Lineart: Mature Commission for SJD83
And so, we have another romp into the adventures of the genderbent version of Lion-O from “Thundercats”. I knew that this was going to be a rather large challenge when I saw the lineart. But as an artist I do need to try to stretch and stretch especially when it comes to backgrounds because backgrounds help to make a picture seem a little more complete.
After coloring Lion-A and Willa, I went to work on the background. And I will admit that in coloring the background, I couldn’t help but hear in my mind’s ear, the voice of Bob Ross painting happy little trees and bushes. Although, I’m not entirely sure how happy these trees are given that they’re in such a dark forest.
But after coloring the trees, vines, bushes and grass, next came the lighting effects. A pretty simple technique of putting in black and white triangles to mimic shafts of light coming through the forest canopy. Then adding a few dots of white and blurring them to give the illusion of dust motes.

Coloring Commission - Bokuman - SJD83 - Pumyra
Here we have another coloring commission from the generous SJD83. He had done a series of lineart commissions to Bokuman which involved the original versions of the Thundercats characters Cheetara and Pumyra.
Original Lineart: Commission SJD83 Pumyra
I admit that I was pretty young when the original Thundercats aired so a lot of the details about it were pretty fuzzy to me. And I was reintroduced to Thundercats with the newer 2011 series and I wondered if Pumyra was a hcaracter created for the 2011 series. So, I went and looked it up and turns out that she was part of the original cast as well.
But from a coloring standpoint, Pumyra was FAR easier to color than Cheetara. Just a small color pallet and a few tweaks to layers here and there and she was finally finished.
At last it was done and SJD83 loved it. :-)

Coloring Commission - Bokuman - SJ83 - Cheetara
Here we have another coloring commission from the generous SJ83. He had done a series of lineart commissions to Bokuman which involved the original versions of the Thundercats characters Cheetara and Pumyra.
Original Lineart: Commission SJ83 Cheetara
I admit that I was pretty young when the original Thundercats aired so a lot of the details about it were pretty fuzzy to me. But thankfully SJD83 provided some reference images for a color pallet and I knew that I had my work cut out for me. Especially when I went looking for other images to help out with the coloring. And seeing how visually complex the characters were, I had to ask myself, “How in the hell did the colorists on this show do this from episode to episode?”
The real pain of it was the hair because of how much flowing golden curls there were. But I have plenty of experience coloring the linearts of Bokuman over the years and I know that I had colored far more detailed stuff than this. So, I just bore through it and continued to whittle away at it.
At last it was done and SJ83 loved it. :-)

Coloring Commission - Bokuman - SJD83 - Leon-A
Here we have a coloring commission that was made to me SJD83 by of a lineart that he had commissioned to Bokuman
Original seen here: Leon-A Lineart
It’s always a pleasure to color Bokuman’s lineart it’s like going back and revisiting a favorite restaurant.
But because I’ll be going to a convention soon, I needed to raise funding for it so I’ve been asking around some of my regulars if they have any new linearts that they’d like colored and SJD83 had one that he had overlooked. It’s another Genderbend of Lion-O. I know that many of you have reservations even outright hatred of genderbend characters but that’s another issue entirely that I’d rather not get into.
For this picture, it was pretty easy compared to the other stuff I’ve done. All that was needed was just to color the character and that was that. So I pretty much had the pallet set up. The only real trick of this one was coloring the sword but in my experience coloring metal is tricky no matter what. But thankfully, SJD83 loved what I had done so that’s all that matters.

Coloring Commission - SJD83 - Nemera
Here’s a coloring commission made to me by SJD83 of a lineart that was done for him by Bokuman
Here’s the original: Nemera Lineart
There isn’t much that can be said in terms of a background about this character. I had asked SJD83 about her and he told me that it was an original character that he had been tinkering around with for the 80s version of “Thundercats”. The basis of her “Feline Species” is essentially a Leopard. Beyond that there wasn’t anything else, personality wise or history.
However, he did have one image that had the color pallet for her, which was an enormous help.

Coloring Commission - Leon-A Tentacle Attack
This is a coloring commission made to me by SJD83 with the lineart done by Bokuman
Here’s the original: Leon-A Tentacle Attack Lineart
After doing the last one that I did for SJD83, this one seemed to be a bit of a breeze since no background was required in the coloring process. But then after I finished coloring Leon-a, next came the really difficult part: Coloring the tentacles. In the process of it, I couldn’t help but think about the people who animate and color tentacles in both anime and hentai. I started to really sympathize with them because of how much of a pain in the ass it was to get my polygon lasso tool into the lines of the tentacles and to get it into the right one. Becuase just when you’ve finished clicking the right area, you soon find out that you did the wrong area.
I will say this, it was a good thing that it wasn’t asked that each tentacle be a different color. Otherwise that would have raised the difficulty rating quite a lot.

Coloring Commission - Leon-a versus the Void (Colored)
This is a coloring commission made to me by SJD83 with the lineart done by CallMePo
Here’s the original: Leon-a Versus the Void Lineart
At first I thought I was just going to color Leon-a and the void creature but then I was asked to color a background with some line work that SJD83 had drawn up. In comparison, both were rather intricate. Such as with Leon-a, there was the need to lock the layers and add some extra color, like the dark blue trim on her outfit, the white edging on the boots, and so on. Next was coloring the void creature. Using the polygon lasso tool on all those curves and such took quite a while to get done. So, all in all, Leon-a and the Void Creature took about a full day to color.
The next part came with the background where, thankfully, there wasn’t as much guess work when it came to making the background. But in the course of laying down the colors for the trees, the leaves and the bushes, it made me feel like a digital version of Bob Ross. "We’re just painting some happy trees here, some bushes aaaaaaand some light beams.“
Thanks to some techniques I had learned over time I was able to throw in some diffused light that looks like it’s coming through the tops of the trees and add in a few dots and blur them and they look like dust particles.
Two days worth of work and I’m rather proud of how it turned out.
