Coloring Commission - Rogue gets Slimed

 Here is the newest coloring commission given to me by Slim2k6.  The picture was drawn by CallMePo as part of the ongoing "Camp Woody" series that Slim2k6 has done.  When they approached me to do this piece, my first question was about the background.  Thankfully, they had a pretty clear idea of what they wanted.  They wanted a dark night, a dark forest, rogue on the ground, and mist.  

With those outlines laid out in front of me, I went right to work on it.  Though since this was something somewhat different from the others that I have done I decided to do something a little different in the shading.  That being that the light would come from the right.  When it was done I started to realize that I had made the best choice in making it come from that direction.  Gives a certain look of being ominous like the killer in a slasher film being off screen somewhere.

After applying a little mist and some stars to a night sky, the piece was done.

Coloring Commission - Gwen Gets Slimed

 

In the most recent of commissions from Slim2k6, who has been a great patron as well, we have this piece that was drawn by CallMePo some years back of Gwen from "Total Drama Island" being slimed while at the camp, and really enjoying it by the look of it.  

When I was commissioned to do this one, I was given two versions of the picture, one where Gwen looked like she was floating in mid-air and another that featured the slime monster.  And I was asked to color them both.  My work was really cut out for me in this instance and it was a little hard to get to it because my regular job has been so hectic and random as far as its scheduling.  But eventually I managed to finish coloring Gwen but the real challenge ahead was coloring the background and the slime monster.  The reason is because Po tends to shade and color in the line arts and that can make things tricky as far as getting the coloring right.  The same can be said about the background as far as making it look like night time as Slim2k6 wanted.  

 But after a lot, a lot, and a lot of trial and error and some insight from Slim2k6 as well, I managed to get it to come out just right and here we have the final pieces.  

 My thanks to Slim2k6 for allowing me the opportunity to color this.

Coloring Commission - DaCommissioner - CallMePo - Gogo has been Slimed

Here's the next coloring commission that I've recieved from DaCommissioner by a piece that was drawn for him by CallMePo. 

The hardest part about this one was coloring a sketch because I'm more used to solid black lines.  Then there's the slime itself.  Because coloring the shading for slime is always a hard thing to do but I think I did as best as I could with this.

CallMePo - DaCommissioner2k15 - Camp W.O.O.D.Y. Bad Bet

In recent weeks, I’ve been in a financial bind, so I’ve been asking around for art commissions.  One of them was my frequent patron, DaCommissioner2k15 he said that he couldn’t commission me but after seeing this picture that was done for him by CallMePo I couldn’t resist and so I said that I would do it as a favor to him for his marvelous patronage.

From what he told me about this piece, essentially Kylie (Ghostbusters) had made a bet and had lost and her punishment was to wear Raven’s outfit.  A pretty easy piece to color, if I may say so, although the leotard was hard to do given that I was using the original Teen Titans version of Raven’s outfit and it had only two tones, black and the highlight so I had to tweak that a little in order to give the leotard some light and definition. 

As for the background, I imagined the scenario where Kylie was changing into the outfit at the GHostbusters’ station house and was having trouble getting into it.  And really doing a locker room background is pretty easy, especially if you turn on PHotoshop’s grid.

Coloring Commission - CallMePo - Slim2k6 - ogehS woN msagrO

Here is a new coloring piece that was made to me by a wonderful patron of mine: Slim2k6 a.k.a. DaCommissioner and this one is another from Camp Woody but this one involves Shego from “Kim Possible” and Desiree from ‘Danny Phantom” who had learned a small spell from Zatanna (DC comics).

In the beginning, I was asked to give it a similar background to the Eris/Ann Marie picture where it was the inside of a cabin.  And given the position of Desiree’s hand in the picture and the angle, I already knew what sort of background to set up.  That basically Shego’s back would be to the angled wall and there would be the adjacent wall to that. 

After coloring Shego and Desire, I wanted to make the effects, like the motion lines around Shego to pop a little more.  So, remembering how old school comics looked, motion lines often had a little bit of white coupled with it.  Using that, I went through and added the white to the sweat droplets and the motion lines.  But I still felt that there was more that needed to be done, such as with Desiree’s magic.  With that, I just used the color of the portal, added a little dusting of “magic sparkles” and added an outer glow to them to make them pop.

Coloring Commission - Slim2K6 - Camp Woody - It’s Called a Booty Hole

This is the most recent in a series of coloring commissions that Slim2k6 had asked me to color.  This one is of Eris from “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy” with Ann Marie of “Total Drama Island”.  The setup is that these two are at their cabin and starting to do some extra exploring. 

The lineart itself was done by Justin Durden

Initially when I got this commission, I wasn’t asked to put in a background but after a while I couldn’t help but want to do one.  And my first instinct was to do one where they were outside the cabin.  But it took Slim to tell me that they were inside.  So I did some switching of the color pallets and viola. 

I have to say that the stuff from “Camp Woody” is rather fun and a fun concept to play with.  And I do hope to do more.

Coloring Commission - CallMePo - Slim2k6 - Camp Woody Crisis of Infinite Kylies

This is the newest commission from Slim2k6 who wanted me to color a lineart that was done by callmepo.

This one involved a pair of women, both named Kylie.  I didn’t know much about either character so I asked Slim2k6 about them both and as it turned out they were both the same woman just in different media.  One is Kylie from the Ghostbusters comic books done by IDW.  The other is Kylie from Extreme Ghostbusters.  After having their names and sufficient reference images for them both, I went to coloring them. 

Unlike before where I used my own color pallet, I used the pallets from the screen caps of both characters.  Which made things quite easy.  But when it came to the tentacles, things got tricky.  Initially I was asked to make them transparent so that they would look more like Ghostbusters Ectoplasm meets Hentai tentacles.  Unfortunately it wasn’t as easy as that so, Slim2k6 agreed to have them be solid.  But the fact that they were pink was quite a nice change from the other tentacles that I had done before, which were usually green in color. 

The finishing touch that was asked was to put in “Splurt!” word actions like something out of a comic book as well as to give it the vernier of night.  Which I did but I still wanted to showcase it as if it were in daylight.  Thus the reason why you see four versions of this picture. 
As far as the story of it, at Camp W.O.O.D.Y., there was an ectoplasmic entity that was causing disturbances and so both Kylie’s arrive on the scene and find out that there is only one way to sate and banish the creature.  And I think you can see what it was.

Coloring Commission - Camp Woody On Call

This is a commission made to me by DaCommissioner of a lineart that CallMePo had done.

When I saw it and read what DaCommissioner wanted me to do with it, I knew that I really had my work cut out for me.  For one, the background that was asked for was to be an alleyway at night.  But the biggest challenge that I saw was in the holographic displays that Katara and Korra had.   In my mind I knew that they had to have a glowing quality to it like any kind of computer screen.  But because I didn’t have the font or any way to find out what the font was, I tried a technique of my own on it.   The technique I had in mind was to use the font in the upper corners, copy them and try to manipulate them so that they fit behind the ones in the holographic displays.  Then changing their colors to something bright and adding an outer glow effect would give the desired visual aspect that I had in mind.

Unfortunately, that part didn’t pan out as well as I had hoped.  So, I reverted back to my old polygon lasso tool that I used for everything else and simply clicked and selected around the white spaces between the black circle and the text itself.   Then I gave it the bright color and outer glow and that seemed to work as I had originally intended.

Compared to that, the work on the background was easy.  All I did was lay down some brick colors, and use a “star brush” and set my scattering pretty far apart and did some splattering to give it the brick textured look.  The same was done with the mortar part of the bricks.

Finally I did a black and a dark blue overlay to give it a nighttime appearance.  However I did like how the daytime one came out so I’m posting that one as well. 

And I’m certainly glad that DaCommissioner enjoyed it as much as I did in the challenge of it.
