Edwinhuang - Sailor Venus Colored

And here we come to the end of the Sailor Senshi series done by @edwinhuang and no better senshi to end it with than Venus herself.

And here’s the original that Edwinhuang did:  Sailor Venus (5 of 5)

I do admit that I wanted to do the same effect that Edwinhuang did with the heart chain that Venus does as part of her attack but sadly I couldn’t get the effect done just right.  So I left it alone and simply gave a simple heart from the kiss that she was blowing.

I hope all of you liked the coloring work that I did with this, it was quite a lot of fun.  I only wish I had more time in the day to do it after doing the kind of 9 to 5 job I do day in and day out.

Thank you, Edwinhuang for allowing me this opportunity.

Edwinhuang - Sailor Jupiter Colored

I know it’s been taking me a while to get any new artwork out to all of you, but here is the penultimate, or second to last, of the Sailor Moon series of pictures by @edwinhuang

Here’s the version they did: Sailor Jupiter 2 of 5
A little like what I had done before with Sailor Mars, I knew that this picture needed a new effect added to it.  This time it needed lightning, which, personally, I think is much easier to render than flames.  And like the others, I had to throw in her planetary symbol but like the past couple others, much of the character blocks the symbol.  But it would be a small disservice if I left it out.  So I kept it in.  My thanks to Edwinhuang for allowing me to color the linearts.

Edwinhuang - Sailor Mars Colored

It has been a while since I uploaded anything new and for that I apologize everyone.  But here we have the next in the Sailor Moon series; Sailor Mars that was drawn up by @edwinhuang

Here’s the version they did: Sailor Mars (3 of 5) by Edwinhuang

When I started this particular piece I knew that it was going to be a hard one.  Mainly because of two aspects.  The first was the kanji characters on Mars’ paper charm.  I had a feeling those would be hard to come by.  The second would be putting in the flames because there are two ways to do that.  One way is to make them photo-realistic, which often has a problem because they tend to look just copied and pasted in.  Secondly they tend to be jarring in their appearance.  The other way is to essentially paint them in which I have always had the hardest time doing.
In the end after coloring Sailor Mars, I went with using a filter that Photoshop has called “render flame” which, I think adds a nice effect with the way the flames curve and bend.
Finally, for the kanji for the Paper Charm, what I had to do was essentially find a picture of the kanji itself and do a little warping so that it matches the shape of the paper.
As for the background, much like Sailor Mercury and Moon, I tried to re-render the transformation backgrounds from the show.  Although, in the case of Mars here, a lot of her was blocking the background.  So you can’t really see the space aspects that I put in, like the stars and such.  Along with the Sailor Mars logo that I put in, just for good measure.
My thanks again to Edwinhuang for allowing me to make my own colored versions of these senshi.

Stay tuned for more, my loyal watchers and followers.

Edwinhuang - Sailor Mercury Colored

After doing the coloring of Sailor Moon done by @edwinhuang  and seeing what else they had done, I wanted to do the others.  So I contacted Edwinhuang and asked if they could send me the linearts of the other Senshi.  And upon receiving them, I went about coloring them.   Although, after the other senshi were colored, I knew that I had a pretty high task to do.  I wanted to make it as dynamic as what was done by them but I wanted to do it in my own way.  And the way I usually do it is in reference to the original versions.  So, given that, I tried to essentially replicate as best as possible the original transformation scene or image that Sailor Mercury had.  However, at the same time, I added my own dynamic flare to it, namely the bubbles which I had to throw in since it is pretty much Mercury’s weapon.  Which is the only disagreement that I would make with what Edwinhuang did with their version by using water.  My personal opinion on the matter is that water is more Neptune’s weapon and bubbles is more Mercury’s weapon.  So having two senshi use water magic seems a tad redundant.

Here’s the version they did:  Sailor Mercury (4 of 5) by Edwinhuang

Making the bubbles was the hardest part since the version of Photoshop I had didn’t have it and there was no one in DA or anywhere else that had an adequate bubble brush that I needed.  So I went and found a tutorial on how to make your own bubble brush.  And using that along with the various added brush functions I was able to give the bubbles various sizes and spreads.  And for the final piece, I had to throw in the Sailor Moon style version of Sailor Mercury’s symbol into the background.

My thanks again to Edwinhuang for allowing me to make my own colored versions of these senshi.

Stay tuned for more, my loyal watchers and followers.

Edwinhuang - Sailor Moon Colored

A while back, @edwinhuang did a few art pieces of the Sailor Senshi.  And given how wonderful the art that they do is, I couldn’t help but want to get in and try my hand at coloring these line arts.  The first, has to be the beginning; Sailor Moon.

Granted my own version isn’t as dynamic as what Edwinhuang did but my style is more in line with the cell style of the original show.

But with this done, I can’t wait to try my hand at the others.  So, stay tuned everyone to see more.

Thank you again, for allowing me to color this and thank you for the others.

Coloring Commission - Cypher3au - CallMePo - Sailor Uranus Black Dog Cover

This is probably my favorite of the series of commissions that Cypher3au has asked me to color:  Sailor Uranus, ala Black Dog cover style.  From what Cypher3au had told me, Black Dog was a set of fan made hentai comics that feature the Senshi.  And often they were featured in a style similar to this.

Here’s the original sketch:  Quick-n-Dirty Sketch Sailor Uranus

This was one sketch that I couldn’t pass up as far as the opportunity to color since Sailor Uranus is my absolute favorite of the Sailor Senshi.  In the course of coloring her (which was during the hullabaloo of the Holiday weekend) I had a rather interesting idea.  I had the notion of having Uranus having a tattoo on her buttock cheek.  At first I Thought of the notion of having her own symbol there but then after discussing it with Cypher3au he suggested her having Sailor Neptune’s symbol and I thought that was a far better idea.  And here is where I was thankful for Photoshops tools of warping the symbol in order to give it the appearance of going over the curved surface of her buttocks.

My thanks to Cypher3au and CallMePo for letting me do color this.

CallMePo - Sailor Uranus Relieves Sailor Pluto

This is the colored version of the Dark Side of Pluto lineart that was done by CallMePo and was commissioned by Cypher3au.

I saw it and I immediately wanted to color it.  Namely because I’m a fan of Sailor Uranus and I do like seeing some girl/girl action from time to time.  So I called up Cypher3au and asked about it and he sent me the high resolution version of the picture.  In addition to it, he also told me that he wanted to have the Gates of Time as a background but for some reason didn’t do it.  And he also told me about how there would be some mist around them.

So with that in mind, I went about coloring it.

I will say that Sailor Pluto is the hardest to color in terms of her uniform as well as her hair color because in the television series it’s like her color pallet changes from episode to episode.  But from what I’ve gathered is that her fuku (uniform) has a very dark purple to it’s skirt and boots and so on, as well as a rust color for it’s bow.  Then, of course, there was her hair which seems to be a dark green from the research that I’ve done on it. Compared to that, Sailor Uranus was so much easier to do.

The same can be said for the Gates of Time background.  I just used a picture that Cypher3au had provided for me and told me that he found it at the page of ChronosCat.

Psyconorikan - Sailor Draco

This is one of the first commissions that I made to the artist psyconorikan.  I had come across her artwork one day on DeviantArt and I especially liked how she was able to mimic the style of Sailor Moon.  And so this idea had been bouncing around in my head for a while.  I figure if there were Sailor Senshi who were named after stars and planets then why not whole constellations.  And so I picked one of my favorites:  Draco.  As for the design, I came to psyconorikan and asked her to give her a long pony tail and color it green and give the skirt a green scaled textured look.  Finally I wanted her to have a sword and a shield.  As far as their design I left that up to her.

I think it came out beautifully, don’t you?

S2X - Haruka and Michiru - "The Kiss"

This one is another lineart piece that I commissioned of the wonderfully talented S2X and it’s of the Sailor Senshi, Uranus and Neptune, or at they’re also known as Haruka Tenou and Michiru Kaioh.  The idea that I had in mind behind this one when I had approached S2X with the idea came to me from a photograph called “The Kiss” by Tanya Chalkin.

Seeing the picture made me think of Haruka and Michiru and I figured that I’d have S2X do it since he’s very good when it comes to more complicated poses like this one.

From a coloring standpoint, this one was fairly easy since both Haruka and Michiru have the same skin tone.  From there there was the hair and then the bedsheets.  Then again with the way that the photograph was it took in the simplicity of the pose and the background.  So really there was no need to overwhelm the viewer’s eye.

Hope you like what you see.
